John 1 is about identifying Jesus. John 2 is about defining Jesus' mission on earth: Salvation and Sanctification. This mission calls for a renewal in critical aspects of a Christians life: New holiness, New Worship, and New Faith. In all this, the foundation remains the same: Jesus Christ.

Like Greek and Roman armor, the Shield of Faith offers both defensive protection and offensive agility. Biblical faith is active, not passive, marked by 27 verbs in Hebrews 11. We "obtain" a testimony through the struggle of faith but "receive" salvation as God's reward. Safeguarding virtues like peace and truth, this God-given faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

Just as Roman soldiers relied on the caliga (hobnailed sandal) for stability, protection, and endurance, Christians are to wear the "shoes of the gospel of peace" (Eph 6:15). This peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the shalom (wholeness) that comes from being justified by faith (Rom 5:1). This peace with God is our spiritual "hobnail," giving us a firm foundation to stand in chaos and the readiness to carry the good news of salvation (Is 52:7).
